Our Curves

Beauty & Style

Asos Animal Print DressMy full figured friends-

As a sister of the ‘junk in the trunk’ community, I speak to you all out of love. All of my life, I have had meat on my bones. A figment of my anatomy, I have learned to embrace my curves. I have come to study them, love them, and at times loathe them. Yet, through it all I have accepted them. Welcomed them with open arms and learned to beautify what I have been given.

Shopping is no task. Figure flattering clothes hide flaws and highlight assets. And, the biggest asset that I have, that we all have, is our attitude. Being comfortable in one’s own skin is the most beautifying accessory we all can wear. There is no price tag on self-confidence, no contouring of self-worth; I just have to be, you just have to be, comfortably us.

Yet, as we grow- as we journey, into loving ourselves there are a few tips we can carry along. How we present ourselves is among the first impressions given to others and that mental note must always be a good one.

I’d like the share with you all, some of my most favorite tips for the perfect presentation. Thus, as I explore what it means to truly love myself, I will be sure to do it in a fashionable way.

The week, I will feature three outfits from the full-figured clothing line ASOS. Many of their items are geared toward a younger, hip population. However, this totally affordable line has really great items that anyone could dress up or down.  For example:

Animal prints are a quick, no nonsense way to update any wardrobe. However, we must be careful not to allow such a fercious pattern to overwhelm our outfit. This Asos animal print maxi dress is as stylish as it comes. The pattern keeps this simple cut dress hip, while the large print minimizes minor flaws. This dress is a great way to keep it cool, yet incredibly cute.

Our second figure flattering item is wide legged pants. When I was in high school, I swore by wide legged pants. Not only did they create an equalizing of weight distribution between your top and bottom half, but if you have a little more ‘junk in the trunk’, these pants will appear to equalize weight distribution from your hips down to your ankles. Another reason why wide legged pants are so awesome is that when worn with heels, it slenderizes our body to the eye.

Pencil skirts are the best staple item ever created! Not only are they a-line (one of the most flattering forms for a curvy woman), but they are effortlessly classic. Pencils skirts provide a narrowing effect, accentuating our hips while minimizing our thighs. Not only are pencil skirts classically awesome, this color simply pops!

  1. I liked your forthrightness on the subject. Once upon a time, if you were big or curvey, you were made to look like a old women. I must say, skinny girls have nothing on curvey girls now! As for you, you wear it well, you are very fashionable all the way around, from your hair to your toe!

    1. Thanks! You know I still find that even today, some stores still promote that ‘older generation’ look if a woman has curves. Yet, there are many, many options. Women just have to be willing to look and most importantly love themselves enough to know that they too are beautiful.
